The plane ride from LGA to the Netherlands is smooth, with few bumps along the way. You get some delicious snacks and even a glass of white wine.  You land in Schiphol and are greeted by a handsome Dutch man and American lady waiting to drive you to Maastricht. Welcome to your (virtual) Netherlands trip!

April 12th!

Happy Easter! Or as they say in Dutch, fijne pasen! After a lovely church service and breakfast of fresh Dutch bread and jam it's time to explore the city. Shall we start with a quick tour? Then maybe you can listen and learn about a chapel in the center of the city with an intriguing history.  Onto tomorrow!

Today it is time for the pancake cruise along the Maas! Here is a recipe for Dutch pancakes. They're traditionally eaten with sweet toppings like jam, stroop (Dutch syrup), and powdered sugar OR savory toppings like bacon and cheese. They're thinner than American pancakes and are closer to the French crepe. https://www.curiouscuisiniere.com/pannekoek/ After the cruise maybe it's time to learn about the unique dialect spoken in this southern part of the country. It's totally different from the standard Dutch spoken in the North, but most people here speak and understand both. https://blogs.transparent.com/dutch/learning-limburg-dialect/ With tummies full of pancakes and head full of new phrases it's time for bed!

Today the tri-border region area is your oyster? Shall we go for a schnitzel in Germany? A Belgian waffle in Liege? Or stay in Maastricht and see more of the city? Luckily, virtually, you can do all three! With much more to see and do when you come in real life.  Maastricht Bonnefanten Art Museum: https://www.bonnefanten.nl/nl/kunst-kunstenaars/ontdek-de-collectie Liege Sites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn8u4f5MfQI German Schnitzel Recipe: https://www.curiouscuisiniere.com/chicken-schnitzel/ It's the last night in Maastricht, but exciting things are coming tomorrow as we travel to Delft!
